This
email system is encrypted and HIPAA compliant.
We strongly encourage you to use this feature. You can email
our staff members to schedule an appointment, to request a refill or a referral,
to ask a billing question, or to report a result such as a blood sugar or blood
pressure reading. You can send your requests at any hour and do not have to spend
time on the phone. The service provides other benefits, such as sending you reminders
about appointments. We will, of course, still have our wonderful staff answering
phones in person during business hours, and you will still have the option of
leaving a phone message after hours for non-urgent matters. A
new feature is the on-line "office visit." There is a fee for
this, currently $30, payable by credit card; many insurances cover these "visits."
If the doctor thinks your question is a very simple yes/no type of thing or is
complex enough to warrant a real office visit, you will not be charged. Do
NOT use this feature for anything urgent as, depending on the doctor's
schedule, it may take a couple of days to reply. There are question prompts for
you to answer about your symptoms so we can get a clear idea of your problem;
you can also type your own questions. These on-line "visits" are appropriate
for many kinds of problems, such as following up on medications, questions about
travel, advice about children's issues, questions about lab or test results, and
for most uncomplicated things that do not require an actual physical examination.
We hope they will be a savings of time and money for you (no co-pay, no transportation
costs, no missing work or school). We
will be fine-tuning this new service as we go along. We still love to see you
in person and remain committed to providing prompt in-office care. For urgent
problems after hours, you may still phone the office to have the answering service
page the doctor on call. |
